Galli Boat Service has been sailing the waters of Lake Como for almost a century with its motorboats and their thousands of miles behind them, to tell the story of Lariana navigation.
During all this time, our aim has always been the protection, enhancement and dissemination of the precious landscape and cultural heritage of the lake.

– 1930 –

The birth of Domenico Giuseppe Galli

The “Tecia” (nickname of Domenico Giuseppe Galli), puts the harpoon and the tirlindane in the cellar, cleans his boat from the scales of agoni and perch, repaints it, equips it with an awning to protect guests from the darts of the sun . His wife Rachele makes four cushions for him that fit the rustic seats of the “inglesina” (this is how the Tremezzini call the slender spears, with four oarlocks, designed for two rowers at the service of wealthy foreign tourists) and sews him a elegant red sash – in imitation of the Venetian gondoliers – that the “Tecia” wraps around its waist from the early morning when it shows up in front of the steps of Villa Carlotta with its polished boat.

The first motorboat “Giacomo”

Immediately after the war, while the “Tecia” takes for a walk on his “English girls” rowing the characters who return to the Lario after the war interlude – rich American industrialists, English nobles, Russian princes – his son Giacomo tries to give a carried out in paternal activity. He bought the first motorboat : one of those long and narrow “torpedoes”, with a small cabin in the middle of the boat, which were then used by wealthy families on vacation in their Larian villas, and restructured it properly.

The fleet expands

Later, with the economic boom, mass tourism also began, especially abroad: a different, more organized way of working began. Giacomo is now an entrepreneur, with three motorboats and three employee-sailors. Just “beat the square” to urge families and groups of tourists to an impromptu speedboat ride. Now that the Tremezzini hotels are full of English, French, Germans who spend a week in Italy and do not disdain to make excursions to Lecco, Piona, Como, the first seasonal collaboration contracts are stipulated with foreign travel agencies, especially English and Swiss. In those years, in the breaks between the organized excursions, a way will be found to reserve one of the boats for Konrad Adenauer, the German chancellor who loved to vacation in Cadenabbia and who weekly turned to Giacomo to ask for some new destination for his walks. by speedboat, accompanied by friends and officials.

Present and future

The company gradually passed into the hands of his daughter Enrica , whose husband, Carlo , invests all his previous experience as a wood and iron craftsman in the business. The new boats, more and more modern and of increasing tonnage, are built with the direct manual contribution of the new owners of the company – the third generation – inspired and encouraged by the owner Giacomo, who retired from the activity only at the beginning of this. century. Not without the satisfaction of seeing the young nephew Daniele and his wife Eva appear at the pier of Villa Carlotta with the same passion for boats and for the lake.

The history of tourist motorboats on Lake Como continues with professionalism and innovation, in the wake of tradition, are the watchwords that have allowed the company of “Tecia” to thrive and grow in the seventy years of its history. The new generation, wisely, have made them their own, well aware that they have been and will continue to be a guarantee of continuity and success.
